ICCS Special Report: Infection Prevention Violations in ASCs

By on 6:11 AM

Infection Control Consulting Services (ICCS) has published a new special report that identifies infection prevention requirement and standard violations in ambulatory surgery centers (ASC) as witnessed during recent ASC visits by Phenelle Segal, RN, CIC, President of ICCS.

The type of ASC infection prevention violations are broken down into three areas of focus:

  • Safe Injection Practices/Multi-Dose Vial Use
  • Surgical Attire
  • Hand Hygiene

As the special report notes, "These violations and deficiencies are subject to citations. ... ICCS consultants visit many ASCs (and other providers) that are not allocating what will likely be deemed an appropriate amount of time, and this is likely contributing to infection prevention and control shortfalls."
